Why Exterior Contractors Are Adding Permanent Lighting

7 min read

If you run a holiday lighting company, you already know the shape of the problem. You're slammed from October through December, you make most of your year in about ten weeks, and then January arrives and the phone stops.

If you do roofing, siding, or gutters, you have a different version of the same issue — you're already on the fascia, already have the ladders, already have the customer's trust, and you're leaving a high-ticket add-on completely on the table.

Permanent lighting solves both. Here's the honest case for it, and the honest case against.

The revenue math

Most residential permanent lighting projects run $3,000 to $6,000. Most take one to three days.

Run your revenue-per-crew-day on that and compare it to whatever else you're currently doing with those same days. For most exterior contractors it compares favorably, and it compares very favorably against low-margin filler work taken on just to keep crews busy.

It sells in every season

This is the part people underestimate. Permanent lighting isn't a Christmas product with a Christmas selling window.

  • Spring — curb appeal, right when people start caring about the outside of their house again
  • Summer — parties, patios, Fourth of July
  • Fall — football, Halloween, and the customers who swore last December was the last time they'd climb a ladder
  • Winter — the obvious one

Your best selling season for permanent lighting is actually the tail end of the holiday season, when homeowners are standing in the cold taking strands down and thinking about never doing it again. That conversation writes itself.

You already have the customer list

This is the single most underrated part.

If you've done roofing, siding, gutters, landscaping, or holiday lights for someone, you have their address, you know their house, and they already trust you enough to have let you work on it. That's a warm list for a product that sells on curb appeal.

Most new service lines require building an audience from zero. This one doesn't.

The learning curve is short

You're mounting track to fascia or soffit, running low-voltage line, and configuring an app. If your crews can hang gutters or install holiday lighting cleanly, they can install this.

What actually takes practice is layout — reading a roofline, deciding where runs start and stop, handling corners and dormers so the finished line looks intentional. That's what our training focuses on, because that's what separates a job that looks built-in from one that looks stuck on.

The honest downsides

It's a considered purchase, not an impulse one. Sales cycles are longer than holiday lighting. People think about it, talk to a spouse, and get back to you in two weeks.

You need a demo board. Trying to sell this off a phone screen is dramatically harder than putting a lit sample against someone's fascia. Budget for it and use it on every appointment.

And you need to price it properly. The most common mistake new dealers make is underpricing early jobs to build a portfolio, then getting stuck defending that number. We'd rather help you price it right from job one.

Who this isn't for

If you're not set up to run a consultative in-home sales appointment, this is a rough fit. It's not a product you quote over the phone and win.

If you don't want to carry any inventory, also a rough fit. You'll want product on hand to schedule confidently.

What we provide

We're a small, hands-on supplier, which means you get a real person rather than a portal. Wholesale pricing with no franchise fee and no minimum order. Remote install training covering layout, RAL color matching, mounting, and app setup. A demo board and RAL charts. Pricing and margin consulting so you're not guessing. And semi-protected territory — we're not interested in stacking three dealers in one metro.

We'll give you photography, spec sheets, and content you can brand.

If that sounds like the right kind of partner, the application takes about three minutes.
